This week is one of my favorite weeks of the year—Vacation Bible School! Our church will soon be filled with excited children, joyful singing, creative crafts, games, laughter, and, most importantly, the opportunity to share the love of Jesus. While VBS is designed with children in mind, I think it offers something just as valuable for the adults who serve and those who simply stop to watch it all unfold.
Children have a way of reminding us what faith is supposed to look like. They ask questions without embarrassment. They pray believing God is listening. They sing without worrying about how they sound. They trust without needing every answer. Their hearts are open, and they aren’t afraid to believe that God can do big things.
As adults, life has a way of changing us. Responsibilities pile up. Disappointments leave scars. We begin to rely more on our own understanding than on God’s promises. We analyze instead of trusting, worry instead of praying, and sometimes forget the wonder we once had when we first learned about Jesus. Without even realizing it, we can lose the childlike faith that once came so naturally.
That’s why Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”(Matthew 18:3). He wasn’t asking us to be immature. He was calling us to have humble, trusting hearts that depend on our Heavenly Father just as a child depends on a loving parent.
This week, let’s pray for every child who walks through our church doors. Pray that they will hear the Gospel clearly, experience the love of Christ, build friendships, and leave knowing they are deeply loved by God. Pray for our volunteers, teachers, and leaders who have spent countless hours preparing. Ask God to give them energy, patience, wisdom, and opportunities to plant seeds that may grow for years to come.
But while we’re praying for the children, let’s pray for ourselves too. Ask God to restore the joy, wonder, and trust that can sometimes get buried beneath the weight of everyday life. May we remember that our Heavenly Father is still faithful. He still hears our prayers. He still performs miracles. He still keeps every promise He has made.
Jesus also said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14). This week, as we watch children run through the fellowship hall with smiles on their faces and excitement in their hearts, may we be reminded that faith doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes the greatest lessons about trusting God come from the smallest among us.
Have a blessed Monday, and please join us in praying that God will move in a powerful way during VBS this week. You never know—the lesson a child learns this week may be the beginning of a lifelong walk with Christ, and it just might rekindle something in our own hearts as well. ❤️✝️
Love you all,
Jennifer
